Fumio Yoshimura (1926-2002) was a Japanese-born artist working in New York, known for his elaborate wood sculptures of quotidian objects that took months to complete. This French horn is life-size and comprised of countless carved parts, with some glued repairs particularly to smaller and more delicate areas. Signed under the wood base.
Per his New York Times obituary, "Mr. Yoshimura's work is in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Fla., and the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, where he taught as an adjunct professor for 11 years."
